Here is an overview of the issue:

Key: CORE-5
Summary: asian language search stifled by 3+ character search requirement
Type: Bug
Status: Open
Priority: Minor
Project: core

Description:
Not sure what category to put this in - it's not a "bug" but perhaps an unanticipated problem... when searching in Japanese, chinese, korean, two characters is the basic format of almost all words, so the requirement for 3+ characters means that you cannot search for most words in these langugages. The requirement should be changed to 2 (or frankly, even 1) character for these languages, because words can be 1 or 2 characters. (In japanese 1 or 2 chinese characters, or several phonetic japanese hiragana or katakana characters).
