Hi Elias,

First off -- welcome!  It's great to see a new face in the LimeWire 
community.  Many researchers have used LimeWire's code to do their 
research.  In fact, the entire "LionShare" project at Penn State 
University uses LimeWire's code.  As a first pass, you may be 
interested in the "advanced statistics" available from the 'Tools -> 
Statistics' menu option.  Be aware, though, that many of the statistics 
are just rough estimates -- they are far from accurate, and sometimes 
counted wrong.

LimeWire has been refined over the course of 4+ years, with much help 
from many open source contributers and folks in the LimeWire office.  
The in-code documentation is very good (or so we've been told),  
however we are lacking up-to-date technical documents that describe the 
network and/or LimeWire's advances of the network.

I don't quite know how to estimate person years from solar years -- but 
if you can, we've had (for the most part) an in-house team of around 4 
people (give or take at times) working on LimeWire for over 4 years, 
countless eyes from around the world watching and commenting, and a 
handful of excellent contributers from the community.  We've also been 
privileged enough to have over 20 usable translations of LimeWire (from 
Arabic to Turkish) contributed to the project.

Regarding LimeWire.exe -- you needn't concern yourself with it too 
much.  All it is is basically a stub "javaw", except that it has 
specialized error messages for LimeWire, handles reading JRE 
configurations somewhat differently (to work with both Java 1.3, and 
Java 1.4+), and can register itself as a magnet handler.  I don't 
believe we've made the code for the executable publicly available.

To achieve magnet capability, all you need to do is install one 
production version of LimeWire and run it once.  After that, so long as 
your CVS version is up and running, magnet links will always use that 
version.  This happens because the magnet link will open the production 
version, which will detect that a LimeWire is already running and pass 
off the magnet command.
