Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Key: CORE-10
Summary: Direct connections should use the NAT trick (F2F transfers)
Type: Improvement
Status: Open
Priority: Major
Project: core
Versions:
4.8.1
Assignee: Greg Bildson
Reporter: Charles Marseille
Created: Sun, 13 Mar 2005 2:36 PM
Updated: Sun, 13 Mar 2005 2:36 PM
Environment: All
Description:
Since 70% of users are firewalled, the direct connection feature (that requires that the two ends to be unfirewalled) is working about 9 times out of 100 in the real world -- 3/10 x 3/10 = 9/100 --
Many users are having problems with that feature in the support forums and that feature would be much more in the philosophy of plug and play proned by LW.
Thus being firewalled should not stop the direct connection tab to tell IP address and file exchanges between firewalled users. This might be related to the fact that browse hosts doen't use F2F trick yet, so it might be worth a check too.
