As far as I know, no one is working on the web front-end.  It would very 
cool if you were to start hacking on this! Also, depending on what web 
technologies you use, you might be able to re-use some of the Java GUI 
components in addition to re-using the core.

Also, we could not prevent your code from being released under the GPL 
even if we wanted to (we don't!).  If you wanted to take an extra 
precaution, you could release your code under the GPL before 
contributing it to the LimeWire project, for instance.
