Dear madam/sir,

As you may or may not be aware of, Norway has two written languages - Bokmål
("Books Norwegian, bm, no) and Nynorsk ("New Norwegian", nn).
I have some esperience in volunteer translation from English to Nynorsk, and
have therefore explored the possibilities to contribute to Limewire. When
doing so, I discovered that seemingly ALL of the text in your Nynorsk
version isn't actually Nynorsk, but in fact Bokmål.

There could be several reasons for this. Ever since Norway got it's first
official written language - Riksmål (the basis for todays Bokmål) following
the Norwegian secession from Denmark in 1814, the issue of language has been
a source of great
controversy. Today, Bokmål is the preferred written language by the
vast majority of the Norwegian population. The three largest
newspapers in Norway are for instance exclusively written in Bokmål.
There are several laws that are meant to protect the existence and use of
Nynorsk. Many advocates of Nynorsk will argue that these laws are not nearly
strict enough while many advocates of Bokmål will argue that these laws are
unnecessary - even undemocratic. I will not describe the conflict further,
but take my word that it is a very sensitive issue to a great part of the
population and there are many activists on both sides.

Limewire might have become an innocent victim of this conflict. It seems to
me that someone pretending to be a translator into Nynorsk, has in fact
translated into Bokmål instead.

If there is anything I can do to help out, just let me know.

Erik Evans
