Perhaps, but not necessarily. I have 4 computers connected via a LAN and a
5th. running firewall/NAT software that connects the LAN to the Internet.
Hamster runs on one of the 4 computers and provides both outbound (via my
ISP's e-mail server) and inbound (I have my own domain name) e-mail
service. Hamster also retrieves and combines Usenet articles from several
news servers. All 4 computers on my LAN can access Hamster for both e-mail
and news, and can also access the Internet. My systems have *never* (knock
on wood) been infected with a computer virus...well, other than the one
called "Windows", that is <grin>!

Yes, there are risks connecting a computer to the Internet, but a properly
configured firewall will minimize those risks, even when the computers are
left running 24/7, like mine are. And good anti-virus software, used
*properly*, will nearly eliminate the possibility of a computer becoming
infected.

There really doesn't appear to be much point of running Hamster on the
Internet PC...since that computer is a separate, stand-alone system, nobody
would be able to access the Hamster that runs on it even when it *is*
turned on.
