Well, you can emulate Hamster's news.out behaviour with INN, and Korrnews
should compile under Linux, too.  However, it's surely some work to do.
I did spend some time for this and I don't regret it, namely for INN's
significant better performance, YMMV.

No, that's not required but often misunterstood. The address you use in
postings via that server has to be valid and either under your control
or used with permission of the owner.  The FAQ contains more details
about this.
The check that is done and which appearently failed is whether there is a
mailserver available for the domain part of the email address.

Now I could take a look into the logfiles what actually happened but I
wouldn't tell here in the list, but ...
