definitely no.  this is an archaic version.  use 2.53 at minimum.  2.13
doesn't even have version number checks - which is why you didn't get an
error up front.

cool.  1.4.2 would be a tad better (2003 sometime), but 1.4 will do.

As per RPM - that only cares about library versions, not about build
environment versions.  When you want to build, you need a build env.
