It still seems to not work.  After I run the "./gen" it goes through and 
does a lot more stuff than before, and it even creates a "configure" 
file.  Then when I run the configure file, I get this:

# ./configure
./configure: line 1350: syntax error near unexpected token 
`AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE(1.6'
./configure: line 1350: `AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE(1.6 dist-bzip2 dist-zip)'

I can email the full output of the ./gen command if it would help, but I 
figured that I'll save the space in case this info is enough.
