Dear readers of Blitzed's public list,

I hereby nominate myself for the upcoming Executive Board term. I joined
Blitzed almost exactly 3 and a half year ago (with the nick `phil' for
the curious ones[1]). Being impressed by the policy framework they built
to ensure a smooth running network, I wanted to link my server to
the network. I brought some German users with me, albeit not much.

So I joined the network's "government", being the Admin Team, as an
server administrator in September 2002 with my server milk.blitzed.org[2].
>From that moment I tried to help Blitzed as much as I could. I tried my
luck as a web developer, as an OPM administrator and as a systems engineer.

Sadly enough I neglected the network a bit, being overly busy with school.
But the examinations are in April, I should have almost plenty of time
afterwards. Nevertheless I was active on the mailing lists, I just
cut down my IRC times.

After Andy's resignation the governance of the network has deteriorated a
bit, at least from my point of view. The responsibilities are sometimes
unclear and only little gets done. With the growing efforts of Antony,
Simon and Dean this was relieved at least a bit. But we're in fact
still living on the grounds Andy and some others like David and Phil Clarke
built up.

If I get elected I would first try to get the status quo into the policy,
it should reflect the undocumented changes we made to it the last months
(EB and voting policies and the disbandment of the Routing team came
to my mind, although I just saw that some of them are already resolved).
The proposal to introduce a term for EB members bases mainly upon the fact
that burn-out should be avoided, something which was quite a problem
in the last year.

We'll have to face some changes in the infrastructure quite soon, due
to massive breakage on our primary web server. This really needs to
be coordinated with our sponsor, as soon as possible. I feel that
the upcoming EB probably needs to followup on this, to get the
switch to soon-to-be-donated new hardware done.

The web site should also be improved. More could be moved to the
wiki and especially the news section must be kept more up-to-date
than it is happening currently.

Oh well, I guess that's enough I think... What I state is more
a description of what needs to get done, and what EB members have
to face than something one single person could do alone... *cough*

Kind regards,
Philipp Kern
