Client Firewall Settings

Hello Everybody,

I am writing to this mailing list to ask if anyone can advise me exactly what adjustments are necessary to firewalls on the client side to allow BOPM-protected IRC networks to perform security checks upon connecting to the network. I am the author of an IRC client priogram which allows chatters to play draughts (checkers) while they chat, with a mousable GUI for the board, sending moves via IRC messages. The client is now in beta testing, and seems to work well, but users with firewalls can only connect if they either turn off their firewalls or set them to allow all traffic, both TCP and UDP. This is all very well for testing purposes, but most users are understandably reluctant to open up their systems in this way. Can anyone tell me how these client systems should configure their firewalls so as to allow BOPM to scan their ports for open proxies without disabling their firewall protection from other, possibly malicious sources?
