Have you attempted to connect to the ircd using telnet ? Maybe you
have the bopm.conf wrong. If telnet causes the same problem, then it's
not bopm's fault. if, after using the same hostname/IP and port that
bopm.conf currently holds, and it does work with telnet, then it may
be a bopm problem.

Until then, 'unknown error' is not very informative.
