Go to your status window, it clearly states "(change with ^X)" ever tried pressing that? Also, have you bothered reading the startup-howto? http://www.irssi.org/startup. And this is the contest email, not the support email. It's clearly stated on the site with support -> mailinglists. So, I conclude you haven read a single thing on the site!
