Compile and glib

Hello, 

I have asked for help with compiling irssi when glib is not found. I was pleased when they had the configure script download the latest glib and compile it, but unfortunately, after downloading it the script still does not find it. Is there any workaround for this?

My system is Fedora Core 3, and does have glib installed in the OS that irssi also does not find.
