Sounds to me like everybody's trying to defend past decisions made by the=
 Irssi crew, either because they themselves are from the Irssi crew, or b=
ecause they're trying to gain their respect.

 "You wouldn't attach yourself to any "representation" of a group of peop=
le, would you now?" - It's perfectly acceptable where I come from (Englan=
d), for instance I could say "I've attached myself to a rather average gr=
oup of people".  Like mentioned earlier, emotional attachment does not ap=
ply to the case of joining IRC channels.
