An update to my problem - I've successfully added _regular_ GTalk
accounts, but the one in particular I'm having problems with is a
Google Apps for Business account, where the user is hosting their
email on their own domain through Google. Hopefully this information
will help diagnose the problem.

If there's any more information that would be helpful, please let me
know.
