Re: VoIP model Re: Anyone there?

Ok Joe, well the only reason I know (short story) anything about it 
is that my server is at one of the largest VoIP companies globally, 
and 4 different companies joined our little NOG group down here.  All 
sitting at a happy hour it came up.

The short of it is that some are playing with it over tunnels on the 
open net.  Not that there are a lot of direct VoIP to VoIP calls 
right now.  But the issue is it's no way to convince the fortune 
companies to switch over to it when u dont have a completely QoS 
solution built to the same standards as todays voice network.

So we started talking about what is needed.  It looks similar to the 
early net here in the us circa 1993-4.  You need about 4-5 VoIP CO 
type exchanges, an SS7 type RA and lots of help and input from ALL 
the engineers.

The benefit is u avoid the recip comp u pay the RBOC etc.  FYI a lot 
of the calls are going totally uncompressed 64k channels.  As I 
commented this seemed to kinda eliminate the benefit, I got back that 
people like AT&T and Sprint that use them for VoIP actually have that 
in their contracts.

Any help would be appreciated.  The VoIP guys are not peering guys, 
and there is some degree of paranoia at the higher ups in the 
companies.
