I used GM_INSTALL also, and the device files in /dev are created properly.
I ran GM_INSTALL with root permissions, and the mapper too, but inspite of
that I get the following error when I run the mapper.

sudo ./mapper active.args

10:23:05 couldn't open temp file ".mapper.counters"
10:23:05 starting to map. My clock says Sun Jan 20 10:23:05 2002

10:23:06 configuration took 10 milliseconds
10:23:06 couldn't open temp file ".mapper.counters"

why should this happen ?
