Some doubts to clarify while using SNMPv3

Hello,

I'm from a team in McAfee and we are now planning to support SNMPv3 in our product which acts as an SNMP Agent.
Below are some of the queries that we would want to clarify.


1.       net-snmp-create-v3-user is the command to create a new user in the agent, is there a security level (i.e noAuthNoPriv| authNoPriv| authPriv) associated with it since while creating the user we do not specify this option.

Is the security level only used by the SNMP Manager while connecting to the agent(i.e in GET, GETNEXT etc).

If so when a user is created we need to edit the /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf and add the text "noauth" next to the user created(eg: rwuser Test_User noauth) if the SNMP Manager has to communicate with the agent with security level as noauthnopriv. Is this the right way to do it? Else how should this be done?



2.     Difference between /var/lib/net-snmp/snmpd.conf and /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf? When is each used?


3.     Is it right to change the local Engine ID locally or be made configurable by the user?(Editing it in /var/lib/net-snmp/snmpd.conf does not take into effect) I understand that only the remote machine can set / change the Engine ID (with snmpusm command).



Your clarification will help us to go ahead with the implementation of SNMPv3 support in our product.
