The Perl module is still being supported and has even had new features 
added such as the TrapReceiver module in V5.2.

Right now Wes Hardaker is our main Perl guru.  I don't think Joe has 
been around for a while.  I do some work on the Perl modules when needed.

I can take a look at both bugs.  If I find anything, I'll update the bug 
report.

Your two bug reports look great.  The detail you posted should help a 
lot with finding the problem.  Can you post a bug report for your other 
problems?
