SNMP traps have no concept of "severity". That's purely a function of (some) trap receiver applications. As far as SNMP is concerned, a trap is simply a notification of some event or condition (perhaps with some associated information). It's purely up to the receiving application as to how they regard it - whether it's seen as an error (critical/major/minor), a warning, part of normal operation, or whatever. > but all I wanted to know is if there is any standard way of doing it. I don't believe so. The whole idea of "severity" is not really part of standard SNMP, so the idea of "clear" traps isn't standardised either. I think you'd need to consult the documentation for your trap receiver software, and the relevant MIB files, to decide how best to implement such behaviour.
