Ok thanks.  Anybody running RedHat ES 3 with the latest version of net-snmp?
If so did you compile that copy?  I can't find net-snmp rpm packages at
redhat with a version higher than 5.0.9.

That version is almost three years old by now, and there have been
three major releases since then.  Can you please try with a more
recent version, and confirm whether the problem still exists or not.
