Thanks for the suggestion.

The SNMP version 5.1.2 was a tar.gz which I compiled so rpm -e would not
work. Anyway, I did a force upgrade of the new version and it installed
well. Athough unfortunately it did not resolve my problem:

All the servers are responding fine except 2 webservers in an isolated
network. The machines accept SNMP requests from the Cacti server fine
however every second request results in a NO RESPONSE as follows:

[root@NagiosWCMPTSI ~]# snmpget -v 1 -c public wcmws01 sysUpTime.0
SNMPv2-MIB::sysUpTime.0 = Timeticks: (16944514) 1 day, 23:04:05.14
[root@NagiosWCMPTSI ~]# snmpget -v 1 -c public wcmws01 sysUpTime.0
Timeout: No Response from wcmws01.
[root@NagiosWCMPTSI ~]# snmpget -v 1 -c public wcmws01 sysUpTime.0
SNMPv2-MIB::sysUpTime.0 = Timeticks: (16945472) 1 day, 23:04:14.72
[root@NagiosWCMPTSI ~]# snmpget -v 1 -c public wcmws01 sysUpTime.0
Timeout: No Response from wcmws01.

I compared the snmp version with another machine, found it different,
that this was the case and so Upgraded it but it didnt resolve the
problem.

Any ideas on how I can rectify this ?

Thnx,
Sandeep

Which implies that you've got the RPM "net-snmp-libs" installed as well.
Try running
         "rpm -e net-snmp-libs"

and make sure that all sign of earlier Net-SNMP-related files have
disappeared before trying to install the 5.2.1 RPM.

Something like:

    find / -name '*snmp*'

or

   locate snmp | xargs ls 2>/dev/null

might help. Don't proceed until these commands are silent.
