snmp traps and table design

Hello everybody!

I want to ask you about SNMP notification!

I have several implemented tables. I monitor some counters in these
tables and when it violates their thresholds I generate SNMP
notification. The notifications which I generate has bind variables
(i.e. trap severity, counter status, counter description etc.).

For example table looks as follow:

Id

Counter

Counter severity

Counter status

Counter description

1

45

Major

Clear

My big counter

2

134

Critical

Raised

My small counter

When I generate notification on counter (with id 2) I bind all other
columns (i.e. id, severity, status, description).

As mentioned above I have several such tables with the same behavior.

The question is: how is it acceptable to send trap with bind variables,
whether to generate notification with their (i.e. of bind variables)
real oid's or to generate notification with some global oid in order to
facilitate the job of monitor person (person who monitors notification
traps :-) ).

Thanks advance , Vlad.
