Thanks Dave. No, I am trying to configure the master agent and subagent
on different machines. In fact, the end goal is to have 1 master agent
and 300 subagents, where all subagents are on a private network and the
master server is configured with 2 interfaces, 1 on the private network,
and the other on my LAN where my NMS system is. Is this type of
configuration possible? Or do I need to use the proxy support feature
in SNMPv3?

I have read through the FAQ's that you recommended, although they are
helpful, I am still not able to get this working. The master agent is
configured with the -x localhost:705 option in the snmpd startup script
and the subagent is being passed the -X option in it's snmpd startup
script, also with -x localhost:705. I have also tried to specify these
options in the snmpd.conf file. Still getting the same error, "Error:
Failed to connect to the agentx master agent: Unknown host (Connection
refused)."

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

-Andrew

Are the master and subagent running on the same system, or on different
boxes? You can only use the default AgentX socket where everything
is running on the same box - named sockets don't work over the network.

For a multi-host AgentX configuration, please see the FAQ entries:
Can I use AgentX when running under Windows?

and
How can I run AgentX with a different socket address?
