Dave,

I am writing code that should be able to accommodate the discrepancies in
functionality of various versions of net-snmp. Is there a way to identify
the release version via a MIB variable? I had assumed that sysObjectID would
be the right one, however, this appears to be unchanging over 5.1.x to
5.3.x...

$ snmpget -v 1 -c public localhost sysObjectID.0
SNMPv2-MIB::sysObjectID.0 = OID: NET-SNMP-MIB::netSnmpAgentOIDs.10

Is there another OID to get at the software version?

Thanks,

Josh

Ps. I won't be able to upgrade to 5.3.2, are there

5.3.2 might be a better choice, since it includes various
fixes over 5.3.1

Yes.
Given that this works properly in the 5.2.x line, I'm confident that it'll
work in 5.3.x as well.
