One aspect of Net-SNMP that should be documented with regard to embedded systems is whether or not Net-SNMP assumes that the system it is running on has a hostname. On some embedded systems the hostname (the string returned by gethostname()) has been left empty. Additionally, on many embedded systems DNS has not been set up (empty /etc/resolv.conf). People deploying Net-SNMP on such an embedded system need to know which components of Net-SNMP rely on access to a DNS server, if there are any such components.
