Hi everyone, I am new to SNMP and Net-SNMP and few things are making me confused. This is my understanding about SNMP basic operations. 1) NMS issues requests like SNMP GET and SNMP GET NEXT etc. and used to monitor agents. 2) SNMP agent runs on a device/server and responds to snmpget and snmpget next etc. It also issues traps to NMS. Net-SNMP is an agent. Q) If Net-SNMP is an agent why it has snmpget, snmpwalk etc. which are NMS functions? Does that mean that Net-SNMP is also an NMS besides being an agent? Q) A Net-SNMP agent sends SNMP traps to a NMS but I read that it may send traps to a trap deamon like snmptrapd. Does that mean snmptrapd is a NMS? If not, then where is NMS in the picture.
