The Net-SNMP agent is multi-protocol - by default it will include support for SNMPv1, SNMPv2c and SNMPv3. Which versions it will actually respond to and use in practise, depends purely on how it has been configured. > if the v2 traps under the snmpTargetParamsMPModel = SNMP_VERSION_2 > should be sent as version v3 or version v2 If the snmpTargetParamsMPModel is set to v2, then traps to that target will presumably be sent using SNMPv2c - since that's what is configured. If the snmpTargetParamsMPModel is set to v3, then traps will be sent using SNMPv3 > Basically should the fact that my unit is declared to be v3 – mean that > everything sent from my unit is v3, including v2 traps that are configured > under the v3/v2 compatibility mode via the snmpTargetAddrTable and > snmpTargetParamsMPModel = SNMP_VERSION_2? "Declaring your unit as v3" feels a little ambiguous, and is not terminology that we would tend to use. Do you mean that your unit is SNMPv3-capable, or will *only* support SNMPv3? If the latter, then setting a snmpTargetParamsMPModel of v2 would be an error, and should be rejected.
