Extending snmpd, and accepting SET commands

I've been asked to set up snmpd so that a SET command to a particular OID will trigger a script to run. I'm familiar with setting up snmpd to respond to requests for custom OIDs by running scripts, but as far as I've ever seen those are read-only, so to support this request I'd have to write a custom agent.
