Single session vs multiple sessions.

I couldn't understand the need for multiple session provision. What is wrong if I create one session and use the same session id for the entire life time until my product crashes? Otherwise, when would I need to create a session, get an parameter value, close it and then open it again for next query? isn't a overhead?
