Thanks, but that's not it. As I said, I did build it correctly and it was
working (and indeed make test in libpng (1.2.2) does work. It's a matter
of either things moving around or directory permission. As implied, the
best I can do for diagnostics is setting the  environment QUERY_STRING to
what is mentioned below (to eg look at host adam over 24hr period) and setenv
REQUEST_METHOD GET   finally running truss on trends.cgi to see what files
it tries to access.  And if it were truly built wrong, why would opera
display the status map? Any other ideas?
