thank you for your e-mail
you are right, however, that was not the case in my problem,
the actual problem was, even though the packages downloaded had
all the binaries, the librarys they pointed to, were not included  or in the
wrong place in the package.
If you look at the (i think this is the name)trends.png file you
will notice that the interior of that file where the data should be
is empty. this is actually filled in by the call by the CGI, (at least as
far as i could tell) and then displayed on the screen.  Like Dave, I had issues
with the display of the image data inside. Though I agree with you about the
netscape version being an issue with display, What he is experiencing
is exactly the issue i had, the image would come up but the data inside
was missing..(in his case onlly displayed in Opera)
no errors would be given because the browser was
given a "end of file" from the call.
hence, opera would display the template png, and no data.
I found that this all stemmed around how I built the png,gd, zlib entities
on my Solaris Box. So I gave him my conclusion in the hopes
that he had the exact issue i had, and since his symptoms where the same
its a good place to start.
recompile gd /png libraries and dependencies from the source code and
not take the install packages freely available from www.sunfreeware.com
(plug plug plug) *smile*
Also 4.74 actually supports png  files (at least on my windows workstation
it does.) but what Dave was describing from his
image in Opera would still be the case in Netscape. An image template
without the data would be displayed.
I hope this explains better, my answer to Dave. And provided Dave is
using a PNG compatible version of Netscape like you suggest.
