Hi,

I have read documentation about Distributed Monitoring, but finding some
difficulty to configure. I have 2 Linux boxes, running Netsaint as
independent monitoring servers. I would like to make Box A as central
server and Box B as disributed server. Wondering if i can find some
examples for configuring these Netsaint boxes for this purpose.

TIA,
Mano

Well....i got problem too.... I follow exactly what said in the
netsaint.pdf (if you havent' downloaded it before i think you should,
you find it in www.netsaint.org/docs/ )

My problem is that:

The distribuited machines don't send their result to the central server
using send_nsca.

I say "send" because if i use the command:

./submit_check_result 2000 'Ping' OK 'test' (and submit_check_result is
made exactly as is told in the netsaint pdf)

by shell i can send the message from the distribuited netsaint to the
central server, the central server accept it and add it to the
netsaint.log and then i can see it on the netsaint status web page.

So the problem seems to be localized only on the distribuited machines
that don't send automaticatly the check results using the
"ocsp_command=submit_command" option i wrote down this mail.

I think that the problem is in one of these options taht are not well
accepted by netsaint 0.0.7:

# PROGRAM MODE necessario per ditribuited monitoring mettere in standby
# This is the initial mode that NetSaint should start up in. There are
two
# choices - active mode and standby mode. In active mode NetSaint will
# monitor all hosts/services that you defined, as well as send out alert
# notifications. In standby mode NetSaint will monitor everything, but
will
# supress notifications. Setting this value to 'a' will put NetSaint in
# active mode (the default), setting it to 's' will put it in standby
mode.
# Read the HTML docs for more information on the different program
modes.

program_mode=s

# OBSESS OVER SERVICE CHECKS OPTION
# This determines whether or not NetSaint will obsess over service
# checks and run the ocsp_command defined below. Unless you're
# planning on implementing distributed monitoring, do not enable
# this option. Read the HTML docs for more information on
# implementing distributed monitoring.
# Values: 1 = obsess over services, 0 = do not obsess (default)

obsess_over_services=1

# OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE SERVICE PROCESSOR COMMAND
# This is the command that is run for every service check that is
# processed by NetSaint. This command is executed only if the
# obsess_over_service option (above) is set to 1. The command
# argument is the short name of a command definition that you
# define in your host configuration file. Read the HTML docs for
# more information on implementing distributed monitoring.

ocsp_command=submit_command (note this is a command wrote in the
command.cfg)

Now i'm trying to see if the old netsaint 0.0.6 handle better these
options.

Please take a look at the doc is said before...and if you have a better
end PLEASE LET ME KNOW! :)

Thanks

Pietro
