Hi, There is some parameter in the netsaint.cfg file that specify the max number of checks that can be runned concurrent. A max of 0 will not restrict the number of checks. example: max_concurrent_checks=24 further check this entry ( this is the default value ) inter_check_delay_method=s Some qwestions: Is it a specific service check that is respawned ? Have you tried to run it from the command line. In case there is an error with it that keep looping and the max concurrent checks is high or unlimmited and you have a lot of abnormal looping services and an old box with not so many resources, you can quick run out of memory and once swapping is started your system get extremely slow. First rule enough memory in the system. When a service check doesn't return output to netsaint within a configurable time-out ( see netsaint.cfg ) the check is shoot off by netsaint. Default this time is set to 60 seconds. So i should limit the number of concurrent checks. See if it it the same check ( on other hosts ). Run the check manually and see if it return correct results. But why it would cause inetd to start >100 netsaint daemon instances .... -----Original Message----- From: Hector Villalobos [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, October 20, 2003 1:02 PM To: Sluzewski Jarek Subject: RE: [netsaint] Multiple instances of netsaint spawned by init you sure you odn't have some bad RAM.. looks like it might be.. .or swap space.. i run netsaint 0.7 as well on rh7.3 and have no problems.. -----Original Message----- From: Sluzewski Jarek [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, October 20, 2003 8:42 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [netsaint] Multiple instances of netsaint spawned by init I have been running netsaint 0.7 on RH 7.3 for months without any major problem. Since yesterday the system keeps crashing. I have noticed very high number of netsaint processes started by init (about 200). Eventually following messages show up in the log and system becomes totally unresponsive: Oct 20 05:34:17 control1 kernel: Out of Memory: Killed process 5441 (netsaint). Oct 20 05:34:17 control1 kernel: Out of Memory: Killed process 5447 (netsaint). Oct 20 05:34:17 control1 kernel: Out of Memory: Killed process 5456 (netsaint). Oct 20 05:34:17 control1 kernel: Out of Memory: Killed process 5468 (netsaint). Oct 20 05:34:17 control1 kernel: Out of Memory: Killed process 4764 (netsaint). Oct 20 05:34:18 control1 kernel: Out of Memory: Killed process 3981 (netsaint). At this point system has to be rebooted. I will appreciate any assistance in resolving this issue Jarek ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by OSDN developer relations Here's your chance to show off your extensive product knowledge We want to know what you know.
