Your post mentions two different subjects: the wifinetnews article 
referring to Acacia, and a different patent that is held by Nomadix.

In short, I don't believe it's relevant to the NoCatAuth project.

As for my opinion of the Acacia patent, ask me again in a couple of 
weeks.  In the meantime, I wouldn't worry about it.
