why not just dish out via the dhcp server addresses in 4-ip subnets (network, 
gateway, client, broadcast)   --- you'd have the dhcp server configured to 
have all these subnets on the same lan, etc etc. 

yes, this won't prevent the keen from placing static routes in place, but then 
again, an AP isn't going to stop someone setting up an ad-hoc network either 
- at least this solution doesn't require expensive vlan hardware or funky ap 
hardware, and if you are dishing out private ip addresses anyway, then they 
aren't a scarce resource either.   ofcourse, on the other hand, you'll have a 
funky dhcpd configuration.
