Announcement: NoCatSplash 0.93pre2

I'm pleased to announce the pre-release of NoCatSplash 0.93pre2. (The
pre1 release happened during the mailing list outage.) New features
include automatic daemonization (courtesy of Punky Tse), syslog
support, status page support (similar to the NoCatAuth gateway), and
man pages (thanks to Keegan Quinn). There's also a sample SysV init
script for Debian. Bug fixes include Casey Veccio's HTTP request
handling patch. 

This is a pre-release only because it hasn't been thoroughly tested
yet, and Casey reported a memory leak issue that I want to get fixed.
If you're running NoCatSplash, please try out this pre-release and
post your findings to the list. (Casey, would you be so kind as to
submit a patch against the latest pre-release?)

As of now, the NoCatAuth Perl gateway is officially unsupported and
will be removed from the next release, whenever that turns out to be.
It may seem a bit ridiculous for me to talk about "unsupported" when
Rob and I haven't been applying the patches that people *have*
submitted, but so far no one else has volunteered to take on this task
and then actually done anything about it. I don't use NoCatAuth at all
and so it's not real high on my list of day-to-day priorities.  I'm
sorry about that. I still think it's a good piece of software, worth
maintaining, and I know a lot of people out there use it. I'd like to
see more involvement from the community in terms of actually
maintaining it.

I know that NoCatSplash doesn't fully support PGP auth yet. Again, I
don't need the auth support myself and so I haven't been strongly
motivated to work on it. An expression of interest - ideally in the
form of testing, debugging, and/or patches - would make a world of
difference. If you use the authentication features in NoCatAuth and
you want to see them continue on in NoCatSplash, now is the time to
step forward.

Finally, I'd like to acknowledge the support of the Wireless London

motivation for me to continue working on NoCatSplash.
