Yes, of course.

But both behaved differently regarding usage of ldap.conf before 6f623df 
(ITS#8427).

Quanah's question is:
Is it generally required that all slapd-internal LDAP clients must 
behave the same?

This would also answer:
Revert patch 6f623df for ITS#8427 because it's considered a regression?
