It's time for This Week in OpenNMS. This week we got a number of
features merged into the 1.7 branch, and prepped for new 1.6 and 1.7
releases. Of course, since this is the first time we've done releases
under our new bi-monthly release schedule, I ran into some snags and so
this TWiO is getting out a bit late today. By the time you read this,
1.6.7 and 1.7.7 should be wrapping up.

Project Updates
---------------

- Stable: Current Release is 1.6.7

1.6.7 is the current stable release, tagged October 5th. It adds a few
small features. For a full list, see the bugzilla 1.6.7 milestone.
This is a non-critical but recommended upgrade for anyone on OpenNMS
versions older than 1.6.7.

- Unstable: Current Release is 1.7.7

1.7.7 is the current unstable release, tagged October 5th. Since 1.7.6,
there have been a ton of bugfixes, as well as a number of new features,
including the DNS provisioning adapter, mobile sequence monitor, and the
map adapter. A 1.7.x overview is available in the release notes on the
site.

- Unstable: SMS Pinger/Request-Response API

The SMS ping and mobile sequence monitor code got a few minor fixes and
made it through testing. It was merged and became a part of OpenNMS 1.7.7.

- Unstable: Map Link Enhancements

We hit the first milestone for the map link enhancements. There are 2
new additions to the provisioner: the map adapter, and the link adapter.
Together, these allow automatic creation of maps and links when nodes
are provisioned.

- Stable: SnmpPlugin Table Support

Jeff merged a long-standing bug which allows Capsd to scan values in an
SNMP table.

Bi-Monthly Releases
-------------------

As part of our transition to scrum-ban here in the OpenNMS Group
offices, we've decided to move to a bi-monthly release schedule. Our
first releases under the new schedule are 1.6.7 and 1.7.7. Do not be
alarmed that there are only a few changes in 1.6.7, it's only because
we've just recently released 1.6.6, and not much has changed in the
stable branch. :)

Upcoming Events
---------------

* October 28, 2009:
Tarus Balog will be speaking at the Open Source Monitoring Conference
   2009 in Nürnberg, Germany.

If you have anything to add to the events list, please let me know.

Until Next Week...
------------------

As always, if there's anything you'd like me to talk about in a future
TWiO, or you just have a comment, criticism, or pre-built release
binaries you'd like to share, don't hesitiate to say hi.
