It's time for This Week in OpenNMS. Last week Monday was an office
holiday, and I was out sick most of this last week. Sorry for the
missing TWiO on the 12th, but I was feverish and asleep all day, so
hmm... Actually, I'm not sure how you'd tell the difference from my
usual ramblings. ;)
Anyways, we've been continuing our work on map and link enhancements,
and starting to evaluate a move to Git to solve some of our branch
management issues.
Project Updates
---------------
- Stable: Current Release is 1.6.7
1.6.7 is the current stable release, tagged October 5th. It adds a few
small features. For a full list, see the bugzilla 1.6.7 milestone.
This is a non-critical but recommended upgrade for anyone on OpenNMS
versions older than 1.6.7.

- Unstable: Current Release is 1.7.7
1.7.7 is the current unstable release, tagged October 5th. Since 1.7.6,
there have been a ton of bugfixes, as well as a number of new features,
including the DNS provisioning adapter, mobile sequence monitor, and the
map adapter. A 1.7.x overview is available in the release notes on the
site.

- Unstable: Reporting Enhancements
Jonathan Sartin has resumed work on a big enhancement to our reporting
infrastructure. His update:
Made some good progress on the foundation for plug-able database
report engines in feature-reportd. Config schemas and DAOs are in
place. Started work on the spring webflow to go with them. This
will eventually subsume all the current availability report code.
- Unstable: Map Enhancements
The majority of the work going on right now has been in the maps.
Building on the map-related provisioning enhancements we spoke about in
the last TWiO, we're now working on the guts of tracking actual link
availability (including allowing for multiple algorithms for what is
considered the "availability" of a link...)
- Unstable: Transitioning to a DVCS
I have spent a lot of non-sick time in the last few weeks evaluating Git
and determining what it will take to make a clean move from Subversion.
We've been really hitting a wall in branch management because of the
speed (or lack thereof) of moving data between them. Since we've been
trying to be more careful about staying in branches when doing feature
work, it's become much more of an issue.
Upcoming Events
---------------
* October 28, 2009:
Tarus Balog will be speaking at the Open Source Monitoring Conference
2009 in Nürnberg, Germany.

If you have anything to add to the events list, please let me know.
Until Next Week...
------------------
As always, if there's anything you'd like me to talk about in a future
TWiO, or you just have a comment, criticism, or finished Git repository
you'd like to share, don't hesitiate to say hi.
