Right, rancid-api is a separate "project" that's not in the main opennms
source tree.  It is available through maven though, so your build should
pick it up.

You should be able to, yes, as well as the 1.6-testing branch (which
contains what will be come 1.6.3.)

Weird, maybe something's messed up in your maven repo?

Try removing ~/.m2/repository and get the latest source (1.6.2 tarball,
or 1.6-testing from SVN) and give it another shot.  It *should* work.
