Hi John,

If your running OpenNMS on a Linux box normally it uses OpenJDK which has a difference license and support length.

For Example:

https://access.redhat.com/articles/1299013
https://wiki.debian.org/Java

I don't know what the support length of OpenJDK on Ubuntu/Debian is, but RHEL is longer than the Oracle support term.

Cheers

Joe.

Subject: [opennms-discuss] OpenNMS and Java in light of Oracles recent announcement

Hi all,

In light of Oracle's announcement that effective January 2019, Java Se 8 public updates will no longer be available for "Business, Commercual or Production use" without a comercial license.<https://emea01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fjava.com%2Fen%2Fdownload%2Frelease_notice.jsp&data=01%7C01%7Cjoe.madden%40mottmac.com%7Cfb62260cb96041191d6208d5e22dc074%7Ca2bed0c459574f73b0c2a811407590fb%7C0&sdata=ph%2BG%2BeqINn2Q5Er%2B9dFDbsQI7CQ0wDj5dYAlu%2FHRQvI%3D&reserved=0>

How is this going to impact OpenNMS and how it is deployed, and how we use it?

It seems that we might need to start paying for Oracle Java licenses to continue using OpenNMS??

Regards,
John
