the problem is that the config files change between major releases, so you have to merge your old configuration into the new files.

It seems that you don’t have a big environment with hundreds of systems, so it might be easier to start with a clean config from the installation (instead of an upgrade) and configure your monitoring from scratch. If you use some release management tool like git it’s easier to merge the configs. If not, start from scratch and compare the config files with those from the backup of the old version – I hope you have some.
