Hello,

Prior to posting this topic today I've tried to read everything possible both in OpenNMS documentation, this forum, and as many relevant threads as I was able to search, but alas, no joy.

I am on version 19.1.0-1, as a certain advanced search feature was removed (...in spite of OpenNMS authors stating on tutorial videos that they "loath" to remove features ;) which requires us to stay put until a much bigger, non-funded enhancement happens. Not bitter ; I understand fully, but needed to explain why we are on an old version.

We finally decide to enable notifications. This simple test verifies unauthenticated email sending on the VM on which the onms server runs:

[root@orw-onms-dvt-vm logs]# telnet 127.0.0.1 25

Trying 127.0.0.1...

Connected to 127.0.0.1.

Escape character is '^]'.

220 orw-onms-dvt-vm.localdomain ESMTP Postfix

mail from: [email protected]

250 2.1.0 Ok

rcpt to: [email protected]

250 2.1.5 Ok

data

354 End data with <CR><LF>.<CR><LF>

unauthenticated email test

.

250 2.0.0 Ok: queued as 6895A2A436A

quit

221 2.0.0 Bye

Connection closed by foreign host.

and I received the email in my inbox without issue. So the only line I changed from the default javamail-configuration.properties

was:

[email protected]

The additional simple (and clearly documented) steps described in defining a "Destination Path" and "Event Notifications" were performed and I also turned on the "green bell". Restarted (and even rebooted) and tried logging in with an incorrect PW to gen an event that would trigger a notification email, but without success. I'd also enabled "DEBUG":

<KeyValuePair key="notifd"               value="DEBUG" />

in .../etc/log4j2.xml but was unable to get any DEBUG JavaMail-related information in .../logs/notifd.log to assist in correcting the issue.

Hope it is cockpit error and apologies in advance for asking a question that has been covered so many times.

-Paul
