The first commands need to be run as root. Via sudo should be sufficient. I've followed the steps according to the following website: http://opennms.org/wiki/QuickStart http://opennms.org/wiki/Installation:Yum However, after installing everything, I cannot connect to PostgreSQL server as the "postgres" user. I tried with all these 3 commands as postgres user: /etc/init.d/postgresql start /sbin/service postgresql start *su postgres -c 'service postgresql start'* and it all returns the following: "Starting postgresql (via systemctl): Failed to issue method call: Access denied. " I have already changed the ownership of /var/lib/Postgres/data to user "postgres", and I also modified the pg_hba.conf and postgresql.conf file accordingly. However, I can start the PostgreSQL server under root account. I'm not sure where the problem is? Could anybody give me a hand? Thanks a lot.
