This is basically an operating system problem - there is a password required to run the desired command beeing user postgres (-u postgres). There should be a user postgres in the /etc/passwd file and most probably there is a standard password (google for it) or a password defined by someone for this user. If you have root access - change to the root user, then submit the command, this should do the trick. If not, from root try su - postgres, now you should have the right to run the command. - Michael >>> Scott Raymond <[email protected]> 09.11.2011 16:23 >>> Has anyone received this error when installing OpenNMS on ubuntu 10.04 lts I*ve edited the pg_hba.conf so that the local auth method is trust, I was able to create the opennms db with *u postgres I*m able to connect to the network listener.. $ psql -U postgres --host=localhost opennms psql (8.4.9) SSL connection (cipher: DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA, bits: 256) Type "help" for help. opennms=# When I try to run the iplike install it prompts for a password... and there isn*t a password for postgres. hitting enter just gives *sorry try again* sudo -u postgres install_iplike.sh [sudo] password for postgres: Sorry, try again.
