That's the key point.  Your pppd is unable to authenticate the peer.

The usual cause of this is that you have failed to use pppd option
require-mschap-v2 or that the chap-secrets file is not correctly set up.

I can't tell which.  I'd need more data:

1.  add the "debug dump" options to those given to pppd, so that I can
see what the options are that pppd has been given from all sources,

2.  show me the chap-secrets file, replacing the usernames and passwords
to retain your security.  It is the local name and remotename values
that are critical.

covers this error from a client perspective.  You may gain some
understanding from it.

This is a consequence of not completing authentication correctly.

You might also compare a successful connection debug log with
unsuccessful.
