There is not enough information from your logs to determine the exact cause, but it looks like pppd cannot negotiate with the peer. pppd declares an LCP timeout, and aborts. The abort cascades to pptpd. You can gather more information by: 1. add the debug option to pppd and have another look at the logs after a connection; this should show you the negotiation at LCP level, 2. using "tcpdump icmp or proto 47" to capture a packet trace during a connection attempt, and analyse it.
