I had a NIC in a server a while ago that was generating bad checksums.
This one was in a Windows PPTP server, so it was a different problem -
but *may* be a variation on the problem you're seeing.   We worked
around the problem by telling the driver to use the host CPU to generate
checksums instead of offloading to the NIC.  No idea if this is related
to the problem at hand or not but the general idea may be helpful.

Following that whole conversation between the remote system and your
Poptop PPTP server with tcpdump should generate some good clues.
